At the Vanity Table With… is a series that dives into a personality’s beauty tips, tricks, non-negotiables, and more. In this edition, Miss World Malaysia 2022 Wenanita Angang of Sabahan origin takes a shot at it, sharing pageant-worthy tips.
She’s hit the trifecta: beauty, brains, and purpose. Wenanita Angang was Miss World Malaysia in 2022, where she secured a spot in the top 40. But even before that, she’s dabbled in the pageantry game. Four years before being crowned Miss World Malaysia 2022, she won the title of Unduk Ngadau Kuala Penyu.
Aside from managing her modelling duties, she has a day job in Kuala Lumpur as a data analyst—which is a taxing role in and of itself. The 71st Miss World Festival has come and passed (it was held on 9 March 2024 in India), but leading up to the big day, the 27-year-old was juggling her schedule like a master. But don’t worry, she’s not here to tell you to grind. In fact, she’s a big proponent of mental health and emphatically emphasises the importance of a balanced life.
Here comes the purpose part. Something that she holds near and dear to her heart is the representation and well-being of the Malaysian autistic community. Through Making Sense Malaysia, she has partnered with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Early Autism Project, and Sunway University and College to fundraise for the autistic community. For this, she’s had a hand in raising RM30,000 which goes into transforming the lives of people living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Ahead, she shares her beauty opinions, must-haves, and little fun facts that make her Wenanita Angang.
Confess a beauty crime that you have committed before
My beauty crime is sleeping with makeup on. I’m guilty of committing this crime way more than just once.
A beauty item you would immediately replace if it’s lost
Dear, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream. I suffer from extremely dry and sensitive skin, and after experimenting with numerous moisturisers, I have found one with the perfect creamy consistency. It provides tender care for sensitive skin, soothing irritations while effectively hydrating it.
Three items that are on your beauty wish list right now
After returning from the 71st Miss World Festival, I felt compelled to reduce my makeup usage and prioritise skincare. At the moment, my beauty wish list brims with skincare items, with the top three being Aesop’s Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Intense Serum, REN’s Evercalm Barrier Support Elixir, and Dr Hauschka’s Soothing Day Lotion.
A person you have the biggest beauty crush on, and why?
Ever since Sofia Richie’s iconic wedding, I have been obsessed with her. From her skincare and makeup to fashion, I adore her timeless essentials.
Something you’re gatekeeping right now. Spill.
A makeup artist I often work with recommended Embryolisse’s Lait-Crème Concentré as a primer. It is incredible that I even use it as a moisturiser, repairing mask, and after-shave cream.
A trend that needs to die
Glorification of ‘hustle culture’ that often romanticises overworking. Hard work and dedication are important, but it is equally crucial to prioritise balance and mental health.
A viral product that does nothing for you
Any lip plumper. I simply cannot see the difference!
A makeup step you will never skip before you head out the door
I will never step out of the house without filling in my eyebrows. Whether I am opting for a subtle or full-face makeup look, my attention will always be on my brows. It frames my face and pulls my look together.
The skincare item that completely transformed your skin for the better
I stand by the hype surrounding niacinamide and the ANUA Peach 70% Niacinamide Serum has done wonders for me.
Your trick to achieve the best hair day
I prefer not to wash my hair right before styling because it becomes easier to manage and style. When my hair needs a quick refresh, dry shampoo is the answer.
An unexpected beauty hack you always incorporate into your routine
It’s applying setting spray before makeup or between each step. My makeup does not budge even in Malaysia’s super humid weather. The more setting spray, the better.
An underrated perfume you think everyone should give a chance to
Burberry’s Her Eau de Toilette. It’s a must-have for those desiring a gourmand scent with an energising touch of blooming flowers and fresh fruit.
The last beauty indulgence you had done
Splurging on retail therapy in Sephora for my birthday month.
A song that will always get you in the mood to get ready
“Commas” by Ayra Starr is currently on repeat. Afrobeats all the way!
Brands that check all the boxes for you
I am an avid supporter of brands that demonstrate the possibility of creating high-quality products without compromising on ethics or sustainability.
My brand choices for skincare, haircare, and makeup are Dear, Klairs, Davines, and RMS Beauty.
Malaysians you look up to
Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh. Need I say more? Although, I might be slightly biased because she is my predecessor, the Miss World Malaysia 1983.
A mantra that you live by
Progress, not perfection.
