New Balance is stepping into 2025 with its latest silhouette, the 471. This sleek, versatile sneaker bridges the gap between the brand’s 1970s running heritage and everyday lifestyle demands. Designed for those who value both form and function, the 471 pays homage to New Balance’s iconic archival models while offering a contemporary twist on a timeless design.

Rooted in the brand’s distinct design DNA, the 471 is more than just a nostalgic nod to the past. It reinterprets vintage aesthetics with modern-day craftsmanship, featuring elevated materials and thoughtful detailing. From breathable mesh underlays and shaggy suede overlays to classic leather accents, every element has been carefully chosen to capture an authentic retro vibe with a refined modern appeal. More colourways are expected to roll out in the coming months.
One of the most distinctive details is the exposed foam tongue, adding an unfinished, era-authentic look. Meanwhile, the EVA midsole keeps the ride lightweight and cushioned, making it as comfortable as it is stylish. The signature ‘fang’ toebox overlay pattern, inspired by the original New Balance 320, grounds the look in that classic sportswear style. This includes the herringbone outsole, which delivers a reliable grip reminiscent of traditional court sneakers.
“The 471 gave us a chance to look back at our history and pull out the elements that still resonate with today’s generation,” said Joe Walsh, Lead Footwear Designer at New Balance. “It’s not about recreating a shoe from the past—it’s about taking the essence of what made those shoes special and designing something new that feels authentic and wearable now.”
Unveiled by New Balance ambassador and rising basketball star Cameron Brink, her effortless styling of the sneaker courtside at the NBA Paris Games underlines its adaptability: street-ready, sporty, and stylish all at once. The 471’s low-profile silhouette and vintage-inspired construction make it an easy choice for any wardrobe—whether you’re dressing up or keeping it casual.
The New Balance 471 will drop on 26 March, retailing for RM449. It will be available online and in select stores, including The Exchange TRX and Pavilion KL.
