With so much of our lives touched, guided, and even defined by algorithms, it can lead to a formulaic existence, one where we don’t really make the rules anymore. But what Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons put forward for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2025 show is the idea that convenience and convention should never come at the cost of our individuality.
“We exist in an era of extreme information, immersed in a constant stream of content,” read the shownotes. “Our consumption of the infinite panorama offered by the Internet is driven by algorithms, finite sequences of instructions that circumscribe the decidable through logic in a fundamentally illogical world.”
Expanding on this thought process, Simons and Prada identified unpredictability as a key source of inspiration.
“A sequence of concurrent realities are here dedications to the individual, every look a unique reflection of their present,” it continued. “There is a plurality of Prada, elements from different eras coexisting simultaneously to challenge any theory of chronology, creating impossible contradictions, points of difference.”
Challenging some of these rules, the formidable design duo went rogue with pairings. Think Western notes like suede jackets with hole-punched chrome skirts, racy harnesses paired with prim button-up shirts, or a glittering midi dress layered under a bright yellow anorak. Even neon-orange cowboy boots manage to feel at home paired with a leotard and grey suit trousers.
Coded with the eclectic refinement we’ve come to adore about the Italian Maison, Spring/Summer 2025 reminds us to keep bucking against the system, even the ones tailored to our needs and wants. When we think outside the algorithm, not all ideas might land as triumphantly as a Prada collection, but nothing great has ever come from a lack of experimentation.
The contradictory nature of people is rarely viewed through an amorous lens, typically associated with faults, mistakes and wrong turns. But for Simons and Prada, it’s all part of what makes us human—and where the magic really happens! And that’s pretty beautiful, right?
