And Tom Ford himself "could not be more excited".

Another day, another creative director appointment—or so some might think. But this news comes as a welcome surprise to the fashion world: Haider Ackermann has been named the creative director of Tom Ford.

After founder Tom Ford announced he was stepping back from his label in April 2023 following a sale to Estée Lauder for $2.8 billion USD, his righthand man Peter Hawkings was named his successor. But after just a year at the helm, Hawkings left the business. Now, Ackermann is set to take on the reigns of the American fashion house immediately, with his first show set to debut in March 2025.

“It is with tremendous pride that I will seek to honour the legacy of Tom Ford, a man I have long admired and have the utmost respect for,” wrote Ackermann in an Instagram post. “I am much looking forward to what lies ahead.”

“I have long been a great fan of Haider’s work. I find both his womenswear and menswear equally compelling,” said Ford of the appointment. “He is an incredible colourist, his tailoring is sharp, and, above all, he is modern. We share many of the same historical references, and I could not be more excited to see what he does with the brand.”

“I suspect that I will be the first on my feet to applaud after his show in March.”

Born in Colombia and raised in France, Ackermann’s design ethos often balances a modern mix of androgyny and sensuality, focusing on draping, layering, moody colour palettes and subversive tailoring. Blurring the lines between menswear and womenswear and the avant-garde with the everyday, his vision for Tom Ford promises a fresh new era of nonchalant sophistication.

Over the years, he’s become a favourite amongst celebrities like Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton and Zendaya, who love to push the boundaries of red carpet dressing.
