You may have seen the likes of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Megan Fox copping sneakers with a big star emblazoned on their day offs—it’s none other than Golden Goose. The beloved Italian brand has opened its first store in Malaysia at the shopping wonderland—The Exchange TRX bringing its iconic sneakers and ready-to-wear for us to splurge.
A little back story: Founded in 2000 by two young Venetian designers, Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo, the brand arguably started the ‘ugly sneaker’ trend with its signature distressed, leather Super-Star sneakers—giving them that cool, vintage vibe that many people love. Golden Goose lives by their slogan “perfect imperfection” meaning crafting each pair of sneakers with stitches, marks, and rips making them feel like little postcards filled with stories from the past. Apart from their footwear, they carry apparel, bags, and other accessories with their signature “lived-in” look.
The new store in The Exchange TRX captures Golden Goose’s Venetian essence with its raw concrete walls and ceilings counterbalanced with wooden furniture for a more homey feel—reflects their very first ‘house,’ which was actually a garage turned workspace. In the heart of the store lies the brand’s Co Creation Lab, where you can create your own pair of bespoke sneakers literally from scratch. With the help of their Dream Makers; a cutesy way of saying cobblers, customers can choose every single detail from the material, colour, embroidery to laces. Your dream creation will be sent all the way to Italy to be crafted and shipped back to you in a few months.
To commemorate its grand opening at The Exchange TRX, Golden Goose held a special collaboration with Malaysian embroidery artist Anni Tai for an immersive Co Creation experience. The artist is known for her exploration of womanhood and self-expression, and her love for bouquets. For the event, she created ten unique embroidery designs. The patches feature flowery and vibrant patterns, stitch it on your favourite Golden Goose sneakers or jackets—perfect for those in their feminine era.
The opening boasted a guest list of some of Kuala Lumpur’s hottest faces including Yaya Zahir, Sophia Liana, Shalma Ainaa, Gaston Pong, and Maggy Wang. Donning their Super Star sneakers with pieces from the brand’s collection–looking effortlessly chic yet rebellious.
