Loewe’s new Paula’s Ibiza collection epitomises the hot girl summer. Featuring Taeyong from K-pop group NCT, Grammy-winning artist Yebba Smith, and more brand ambassadors, the Spanish fashion house also released a campaign that captures the carefree vibes of an island life. After all, summer is more than just seaside getaway destinations, it’s also about neverending party nights—welcome to Ibiza!
For the uninitiated, Paula’s was a boutique located strategically in Ibiza. It quickly grew in fame for being the heart of the hedonistic lifestyle—a dominating culture in the “Me” decade. Paula’s had been a one-of-its-kind host to some of the most prominent icons in pop culture and was also the Balearic paradise for worldwide travellers. Loewe and its creative director, Jonathan Anderson reached out to Paula’s for a collaboration, and the rest is history. The launch of this seasonal capsule eventually marked the beginning of every summer.
Apart from the quintessential swimwear, the collection offers a range of daytime pieces. Tops come in different styles: halters, wrapped shirts, and vareuse. Knotted tops from the Spring/Summer 2024 were featured, pairing well with pants adorned with ruffles for a laidback brunch date. Bohemian dresses or matching sets were seen crafted using the archival scarf prints—the House’s emblematic Anagram and striped flower. For the silk connoisseur, these pieces are available in a variation of silk twill and habotai, with the latter being more lightweight than the former.
The disco ball’s up as we fix our eyes on party wear—arguably the main highlight of this collection. Artist Douglas Abraham stamped his work—hyper-coloured prints and abstract art like the dice, teddy bears and planet motifs—tiled across garments, from T-shirts to swimwear. Sequin-embellished sweatshirts and shorts too, were seen on Taeyong as he grooves to the beat in the campaign video.
Founded in 1846 as a leather goods brand, Loewe’s status in bagmaking is unquestionable. Anderson resurrected the Flamenco bag from the archive and reimagined it with a bucket silhouette. Ornated with leather knots, the bag became a cult favourite. For this capsule, bold and vivid colours like the Anise—a lime sorbet-like shade of green were introduced. Delving deep into the House’s remarkable skill in basket-weaving, bags like the iconic Puzzle and Puzzle Fold tote got a raffia makeover in new colourways, handwoven by artisans.
As a brand that appreciates craftsmanship, Loewe will also make a donation with every basket bag sold. The funds will go to the community for tertiary education scholarships and craft training schools in Madagascar. Part of the fund will also go to humanitarian aid in Morocco following the earthquake in 2023.
