With her debut collection for Chloé, creative director Chemena Kamali has brought a new era of fashion upon us. Well, not so new: the boho chic trend, which was revived at Chloé’s Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show, has its roots in the 2000s. At the time, the French fashion brand helped shape the trend with their covetable sheer blouses and flowing skirts and dresses, often featuring fringes and ruffles. The It-girls of that era—think the Olsen twins, Mischa Barton and Sienna Miller, who attended the recent Chloé show—embraced the bohemian look and styled their ensembles with bead necklaces, distressed denim and cowboy boots. Of course, the It-girls also had their It-bags, and it was a slouchy leather hobo bag that was often found on the arms of stylish celebrities.
In 2024, the hobo bag is back. For her debut collection, Kamali introduced the Chloé Bracelet Bag, which draws upon a design from the maison’s archives. Specifically, Kamali was inspired by a slouchy, round bag with a large metal ring for a handle from Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2002 collection, which was designed by Phoebe Philo.
The new Chloé Bracelet Bag is a fresh and polished take on the striking accessory. The bag comes in the same soft, earthy colours seen in Chloé’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, like clay brown and a dusty pink shade called Woodrose. It’s cut from grained calfskin leather that is shiny, supple and soft, allowing the bag to take on its distinctive crescent shape. The only rigid elements come from the bag’s metal hardware, namely the two-toned rings at either end of the bag, and of course, the namesake round bracelet handle.
Thanks to its detachable bracelet handle, the Chloé Bracelet Bag can be worn in many different ways, be it as a clutch, a shoulder bag, or a crossbody. At the Chloé Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show, Miller flaunted the accessory by looping the bracelet through her arm, as did former supermodel Jerry Hall. On the other hand, Hall’s daughter, Georgia May Jagger, carried it by using the bracelet as a top handle. It’s clear: True to the free-spirited essence of boho chic, you can and should wear the Chloé Bracelet Bag however you want, wherever you want.
As Kamali said in a Vogue interview earlier this year, “When I work on my looks, I integrate the bags immediately: The intention, function, attitude, proportion. What was quite unique about the success of Chloé’s bags was that they had no logos—they were never precious objects… But it’s important that with our bags you’re not afraid to put them on the floor when you’re sitting in a café.”
As with the maison’s It-bags of the past, the Chloé Bracelet Bag is made to age beautifully. The bag’s vegetal-tanned leather will reveal a patina that changes over time—certainly after countless visits to a café, or wherever else you might find yourself.
For now, we recommend heading to the Chloé boutique in Marina Bay Sands, where the Chloé Bracelet Bag is now available in both small and large sizes. Alternatively, shop the bag online at chloe.com/sg.
