The 2024 Academy Museum Gala Was A Display Of Old Hollywood Glamour
From Kendall Jenner as a modern Marilyn Monroe to Kaia Gerber’s ‘My Fair Lady’ moment, see the best dressed here.
The concrete pavement of Los Angeles’ Wilshire Boulevard was lit up with a parade of Old Hollywood glamour as the film industry’s best and brightest attended the 2024 Academy Museum Gala. While the event is not an official precursor to the Oscars, contenders and front-runners gathered for the starry night to celebrate cinema and soft launch their award-season wardrobes.
Wickedco-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo continued elevating their fantastical Ozian witch characters, Glinda and Elphaba, in subtle washes of Balmain ivory polka dots and Louis Vuitton green beads. Elsewhere, The Substance’s Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley reunited to deliver contrasting interpretations of red carpet dressing in liquid sequin Prada and lacy Chanel.
Selena Gomez, who is currently on the press tour for her upcoming Spanish-language crime musical Emilia Pérez brought an autumnal touch to the event in a blue suede halter neck dress from Alaïa and also hard-launched her new 90s-inspired flip bob, making her arguably the most on-trend dresser of the evening.
However, where stars embraced modernity, they also eschewed contemporary style in favour of some ravishing vintage pulls, too. Alexander McQueen’s Givenchy and late-80s Mugler were the leading luxuriates whose archives were riffled through for the occasion, with Kaia Gerber perhaps taking home the award for the best reference of the evening in her black My Fair Lady gown from 1997.
As we draw nearer to January, it’s a refreshing moment to take stock of the incredible releases we’ve been graced with this year and appreciate the creativity on display.
