Zenzero x Casanova di Neri
One thing about Italian fare is you never walk home without a glass of wine, or two. Nestled in the heart of KL, Zenzero is named after the word “ginger” in Italian. Together with Casanova di Neri, Zenzero is bringing a piece of Tuscany to Kuala Lumpur with the refined Brunellos. To satiate the greatness wholly, Executive Chef Paolo Cola from Zenzero curated an exclusive menu that complements, if not enhances, the wines.
A perfect pair to the Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020, the antipasto served was a quintessential Italian dish, the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio—thinly sliced meat topped with a generous heap of 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano Mousse. The tannic texture and the persisting aftertaste set off the rawness of the dish. For the main dishes, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 was brought to the table along with a creamy dish of Porcini Mushroom Risotto, garnished with truffles and goat cheese cream.
The Braised Black Angus Beef Cheeks drenched in red wine demi glaze and mashed potatoes puree was pure bliss when paired with full-bodied Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuovo DOCG 2018—red berries sweetness with a tinge of balsamic tones—is easily one of the best glasses of the night.
The five-course menu ended on a high note when the Zuppa Inglese—a typical Italian dessert—made its appearance. Layered with custard cream, sponge cake, and chocolate cream together, the tiered dessert was topped with homemade Alchermes Liqueur.
While the pairing menu is a one-day-only experience, the Casanova di Neri’s Brunello—paired with the mesmerising Italian taste, is worth the visit.
