Dewakan Retains Two Michelin Stars and is Awarded a Green Star at the Michelin Guide 2025 KL & Penang

Chim by Chef Noom and Molina are the two new recipients of a 1 Michelin Star.

The Michelin Guide 2025 was announced earlier today at The Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, and the recipient of stars were exciting, to say the least. Dewakan successfully retained their two Michelin Stars, and was additionally awarded the Green Star—a first in Malaysia.

“The Michelin Green Star is awarded to the culinary establishment at the forefront of a more sustainable approach to gastronomy. This restaurant [Dewakan] showcases local ingredients, particularly unique local produce, making the best use of them and promoting authentic Malaysian flavours. Furthermore, they adopt a nose-to-tail approach to ensure that every part of the ingredients is utilised, reducing waste by fermenting food scraps into homemade sauces,” shared Michelin international director Gwendal Poulenc.

This year, we saw six one Michelin star restaurants, with Chim by Chef Noom and Molina being the new recipients. Au Jardin, Aunty Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, Beta KL, and DC by Darren Chin retain their Michelin stars from previous years. In total, this year sees 56 Bib Gourmand establishments with 12 new ones, 80 Michelin Selected eateries, and four Special Awards.

Dewakan remains the only two Michelin-starred restaurant in Malaysia.

As of this year, the Michelin Guide 2025 has listed 24 Bib Gourmand restaurants in Kuala Lumpur while there are 32 in Penang. For the uninitiated, a Bib Gourmand restaurant recognises restaurant and street food spots that the Michelin inspectors consider the best value for money.

We also saw 80 Michelin Selected restaurants this year, including 10 newcomers. A Michelin Selected restaurant is one that inspectors consider to have met their criteria, but not qualified for a Bib Gourmand or Michelin star. They do have the potential to be upgraded to a Bib Gourmand or Michelin star status in the future—something that happened to Beta KL (from Michelin Selected to one Michelin star) and Penang’s Bibik Kitchen (from Michelin Selected to Bib Gourmand).

Below, you’ll find the full list of Bib Gourmand, Michelin Selected, and Special Awards restaurants.
