Filial piety in Asian households is often said to come from a place of love but what good does obedience do when one’s happiness is on the line? Tunku Mona Riza’s latest directorial outing, Rain Town, tells a story of misguided intentions as the patriarch of the Choo family is hellbent on having his children walk the paths of his choosing and abandoning their dreams.

The New Look

Premieres 14th February on Apple TV+

In this 10-episode series, the devil wears a swastika armband instead of Prada. Crippled by the Nazi occupation circa 1940, Paris is brought back to life by an unlikely hero, Christian Dior, who weaves the message of hope in his fabrics and designs a new world for all. But the rise of the couturier is not without conflicts as he finds himself at odds with Coco Chanel.

Tiger Stripes

Premieres 15th February on Netflix

Good news for those who missed Tiger Stripes during its theatrical run last year! The Amanda Nell Eu-directed body horror, which won the grand prize of the Cannes Critics’ Week, is heading to Netflix. The coming-of-age feature follows 12-year-old Zaffan who struggles with societal standards when she starts experiencing horrifying physical changes to her body.

Madame Web

Premieres 15th February in Cinemas

Superhero slump may be a real phenomenon in the moviegoing trend but Madame Web—an origin story of paramedic Cassandra Webb who develops the power to see the future—is still a must-watch if only for Dakota Johnson’s meme-worthy line readings. “He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders just before she died”? It’s giving camp.

A meta mockumentary. A sci-fi movie. A visual album. It is simply impossible to pin down Jennifer Lopez’s latest endeavour. Constellation

Premieres 21st February on Apple TV+

The line between reality and fantasy begins to blur when an astronaut returns home after a disastrous interstellar mission. Jo notices that pieces of her life seem to be missing. Premieres 23rd February on Prime Video

It will be a while before we get to see Blackpink in action again but Jennie has something that will make the wait bearable. Starring in an eight-episode unscripted show titled Apartment404, the singer-rapper and five others are sent to an apartment building where they are tasked to uncover the truth behind extraordinary events that take place in their residences.

The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

Premieres 24th February on Netflix

The awards season is in full swing and the annual SAG awards is streaming on Netflix this month. Will Best Picture frontrunner Oppenheimer take home the Best Cast prize en route to the Oscars or is the category ripe for a Barbie upset? One thing is for sure, our fingers are crossed for Emma Stone to snatch the Best Actress gong for her outstanding turn in Poor Things.

Shogun

Premieres 27th February on Disney+ Hotstar

If a spectacle-filled action epic is what you desire, look no further than Shogun. Set in 1600 Japan, the series kicks into gear when John Blackthorne ends up shipwrecked off its coast. Before he knows it, the English sailor is sucked into a world of capricious politics between Japanese Warlords, the Regency, the Catholic Church, and the Empires of Spain and Portugal.

Dune: Part Two

Premieres 29th February in Cinemas

The spice must flow, and so it shall. The much-awaited sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s award-winning Dune is hitting the cinemas this month. Timothee Chalamet reprises his role as Paul Atreides who continues on his prophetic journey alongside Zendaya’s Chani and the Fremen, seeking revenge against the conspirators that ruined his family along the way.
