The Olympics are going to come to a conclusion soon and you will once again furiously flip through the channels for something good to watch. Lucky for you, we have listed down all the best programmes to help you ease into the comedown period—screaming at the screen in support of our athletes must have demanded a lot of vim and vigour. Under Parallel Skies

Premieres 8th August in Cinemas

We could all use a little sappy love story every now and then and Thai heartthrob Win Metawin and Filipino bombshell Janella Salvador are giving us just that. In this mellow rom-com, Metawin’s Parin tries to reconcile with his painful past and travels to Hong Kong to look for his mother. But when things seem bleak, he crosses paths with Salvador’s Iris who would change his perspective.

Trap

Premieres 8th August in Cinemas 

A pop star comes to town for a concert and it turns out to be a front to lure out a serial killer known as The Butcher. Trap is basically Swifties’ worst nightmare coming true, second only to a sold-out Eras show. M. Night Shyamalan’s mousetrap thriller revolves around a father who accompanies his daughter to the said concert and soon realises that he is getting more than he bargained for.

Borderlands

Premieres 8th August in Cinemas

It isn’t every day that you get to see Cate Blanchett gunslinging in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Playing a bounty hunter in the film adaptation of a videogame franchise, Blanchett’s Lilith goes back to her planet, Pandora, to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the most powerful person in the universe. To help her accomplish the mission, she enlists the help of fellow unlikely heroes.

The Tyrant

Premieres 14th August on Disney+ Hotstar

At a time when the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, the Korean government finds itself on the precipice of a great discovery. A new drug has been engineered to develop superhuman genes, one that the country would leverage to gain political mileage on the global stage. That is until the United States gets wind of the top-secret Tyrant programme.

Emily in Paris (Season 4)

Premieres 15th August on Netflix 

Pour yourself a glass of wine because Emily Cooper is bringing the drama back to the small screen. Starting the latest chapter with a clean slate, the wide-eyed expat heads to new destinations, from the French Alps to the piazzas of Rome, for new adventures. But it isn’t long before she’s once again forced to choose between her two love interests: flirt buddy Gabriel and ex-boyfriend Alfie.

Alien: Romulus

Premieres 15th August in Cinemas

Did anyone ask for another Alien movie? Because we did and are getting it this month. Starring cinema’s bright young things like Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and Archie Renaux, the latest installation in the iconic franchise sees a group of young space colonisers raiding a deserted space station before they are confronted by the most horrifying extra-terrestrial beings.

Jackpot!

Premieres 15th August on Prime Video

What do you get when you put The Bounty Hunter and The Purge in the same room? If your answer is a high-octane screwball comedy: Jackpot! Set in near-future California, the film follows aspiring actress Kae Kim who is forced to fight for her life after winning the Grand Lottery. Helping her escape the swarm of jackpot hunters in exchange for a piece of the pie is wannabe agent Noel Cassidy.

Blink Twice

Premieres 22nd August in Cinemas

Fairy tales are a hoax and cocktail waitress Frida is going to learn it the hard way as she is ensnared in a lavish getaway that bleeds into a night to try to remember. After hitting it off with tech billionaire Slater King at his fundraising gala, Frida gleefully gallivants to his private island. But when things start going south, she realises that the golden ticket might be for a one-way travel.

Pachinko (Season 2)

Premieres 23rd August on Apple TV+

The critically acclaimed epic based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name Pachinko returns for the second season. Delving deeper into the decades-spanning story of a Korean immigrant family, the series tells the tale of forbidden love that journeys to Korea, Japan and America. The series is led by an ensemble cast that includes Lee Minho, Minha Kim, and Anna Sawai.

The Crow

Premieres 29th August in Cinemas

There is a new Crow in town and his name is Bill Skarsgård. Taking on the iconic role from James O’Barr’s graphic novel, the actor stars opposite FKA Twigs whose character is murdered by the demons from her past. The heartbroken Eric accepts the offer to save his partner and sacrifices himself to become The Crow, criss-crossing between the realms of the living and the dead to seek revenge.
