Tis’ the last month of the year, and with it comes the perfect excuse to cosy up and unwind after the hectic year we’ve just had. December brings a lot to the table more than just festive flicks, there’s a wide selection of entertainment for every mood, from dark gothic vibes with Nosferatu to the highly anticipated season two of Squid Game. Plus, there’s a holiday special with a pop sensation (hint: she’s working late, ‘cause she’s a singer). Read on for the full list of must-watches this month. 

A Nonsense Christmas

Grab your cookies and espresso—A Nonsense Christmas is almost here. Pop icon Sabrina Carpenter is bringing us her first-ever holiday special, and Christmas definitely came early. She’ll be performing tracks from her holiday EP Fruitcake along with other classic holiday hits. She will also be having some guest stars joining her for duets, including Tyla, Chapelle Roan, and Kali Uchis. Expect plenty of laughs with funny skits and surprise cameos. From the trailer, we’re already obsessed with Sabrina’s vocals and, of course, her iconic outfits.

Nosferatu

A dark, gothic tale on Christmas Day? That’s every horror fan’s dream. This is a remake of the 1922 German classic Nosferatu, which itself was inspired by Dracula. The story follows a young woman, played by Lily-Rose Depp, who becomes the target of a terrifying vampire’s obsession. As his dark fixation spirals out of control, it brings an unimaginable wave of horror and a deadly plague to a small town. Nosferatu will stop at nothing to get what he wants—he’s after the blood of a pure-hearted woman, and nothing can stand in his way.

Squid Game Season Two

Squid Game took the world by storm when it dropped in 2021, racking up over 111 million viewers in just a month. Now, we’re finally getting a second season. Set three years after Gi-hun won the first game, he gives up on going to the US and returns with a new resolution. He’s back in the game, this time with a fresh batch of players, all fighting for the 45.6 billion won prize. Get ready for another round of deadly childhood games, where everyone’s risking it all.

Fly Me To The Moon

Premieres 6th December on Apple TV

Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum have amazing chemistry in this 1960s NASA space race rom-com. Kelly (Johansson), a sharp marketing pro, is stuck teaming up with Cole (Tatum), a no-nonsense director, for the high-pressure Apollo 11 moon landing mission. Her job is to sell the American public on the moon landing, while he’s all about getting the astronauts into space. It’s a push-and-pull dynamic, with plenty of retro style and a fresh take on a major moment in American history.

Mufasa: Lion King

Premieres 19th December in Cinemas 

We all know what happened to Mufasa in The Lion King—and it probably made you tear up. The movie gives us Mufasa’s backstory, showing him as an orphaned cub who’s lost and alone until he befriends young Taka (who later becomes Scar). Mufasa is taken in by Taka’s family, and the two grow close, almost like brothers. But their bond is tested when they face a dangerous threat. Thank you, Beyoncé for lending your voice once again.

One Hundred Years of Solitude

Premieres 11th December on Netflix

Gabriel García Márquez’s literary classic is being brought to life as a series, giving fans of the novel a chance to dive even deeper into the world of the Buendía family. The story spans seven generations in the town of Macondo, where love, obsession, and isolation shape the lives of its characters. Their mistakes and destinies seem to repeat, echoing through the ages. Filmed entirely in Colombia with an all-Colombian cast, this adaptation is a celebration of Latin American cinema and culture.

Black Doves

Premieres 5th December on Netflix

Another British espionage series to binge? Yes, please. Keira Knightley, the queen of period dramas, stars as a spy who falls into a passionate affair with a man who has no clue about her secret identity. When her lover is murdered, she’s thrown into the crosshairs. Luckily, an old assassin friend steps in to help her seek out the truth—and get some revenge.

Premieres 11th December on Netflix

The ever so classy and talented Angelina Jolie is back on the big screen, and this time, she’s playing one of the most legendary performers of the 20th century—Maria Callas. The film takes us through the final chapter of Callas’s life, as the iconic American-Greek soprano retreats to Paris after a rollercoaster career in the spotlight. It’s a deeply personal look at her struggles with identity and the price of fame. Angelina playing the soprano? That’s something we all can’t wait to see.

No Good Deed

Premieres 12th December on Netflix

Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano, the stars behind some of America’s favourite sitcoms, are teaming up in this dark comedy. They play a couple trying to sell their beautiful 1920s Spanish home, thinking it’s the answer to all their problems. Three families start competing to buy the place—only to discover that this dream home might actually be a nightmare. After all, every house has its secrets. Now, the couple has to bury the dark and dangerous past of their longtime home from coming to light.

A thrilling spin on the usual jolly Christmas movies, Ethan, an airport security guard has to spend Christmas Eve working and it is the most chaotic time of the year. Things take a dark turn when a mysterious traveller forces him to let a dangerous item slip onto a flight. Ethan goes through a dangerous game trying to outsmart the mystery man, fearing for his life and the thousands of people at the airport.
