Malaysia’s long journey to affluence has been marked by numerous historic events—the ups, the downs, and everything in between—and standing alongside her every step of the way is Volvo. The Swedish automotive manufacturer was among the first to answer her call for foreign investment, which led to the setting up of its assembly plant in Shah Alam, its first outside of Sweden, in 1966.
Documenting the monumental occasion and many others that followed, Volvo Car Malaysia has put together an exhibition that retraces its steps in the country for the last six decades. Makers of Tomorrow, which takes place at Bangsar Shopping Centre from 16 to 20 August 2023, brings together a fleet of locally produced classic and modern—pure electric and hybrid—cars by the luxury brand.

One of the highlights of the immersive showcase is none other than the first Volvo vehicle assembled in Malaysia: the Volvo 144. The iconic car is the perfect gateway to Volvo’s remarkable technological achievements presented at the exhibition including the invention of the three-point safety belt and the introduction of the Blind Spot Information System.
Extending the invitation to join the celebration, Volvo Car Malaysia is holding a photo contest for all to participate. All you need to do is share a photo of yourself with a Volvo car on Instagram and use the hashtag #MakersOfTomorrow to be in the running to win exclusive Volvo collectables. But be sure to follow Volvo Car Malaysia (@volvocarmalaysia) on Instagram and set your account to public.
