We all knew it was only a matter of time before Samsung went all in on artificial intelligence (AI). The tech giant had already dipped its toes in the AI waters earlier this year with many of its flagship products, including the Samsung Galaxy S24+, boasting the machine learning spec. So it came as no surprise that the recent Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris echoed the same sentiment.
No less than eight devices were unpacked, all embedded with the coveted Galaxy AI, notably the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. The inclusion of this particular range is rather symbolic as the smartphone marries the old-school clamshell design with the new-age innovation. It is as though the past and the future are engaged in an endlessly fascinating conversation.
But before we provide you with an in-depth review of the phone’s long list of capabilities, let us first see what we’re working with:
Let’s not beat around the bush: Nothing about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 really jumps out at you at first glance. However, the devil, as we always say, is in the details. Measuring 71.9 x 85.1 x 14.9mm (folded), the latest iteration of the Samsung foldable phone is the slimmest in the series to date. This minor adjustment is a major improvement when it comes to portability.
Another subtle yet significant upgrade here is the near-invisible crease, thanks to enhanced layers on the main screen, which allows you seamless screen time without compromising the phone’s security. Speaking of which, the new flip is built with enhanced durability in mind, especially with the stronger folding edge on the dual rail hinge that better distributes the shock of external impacts.
Elsewhere, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 carries forward its predecessor’s design DNA. This includes the 3.4-inch Super AMOLED Flex Window display, featuring a dual camera that is now encircled with rings whose colours—silver shadow, yellow, blue, or mint—correspond to the device’s aesthetic. The phone flips open to an also-familiar 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED main screen display.
Other details identical to the previous generation of the flip can be found in the satin-smooth metal rails on the sides, the matte-finish back glass, and the glossy hinge—all of which are colour-matched. These tactile elements are preserved for a good reason—they lend a sumptuous yet sturdy feel to the touch, enabling the phone to fit snugly in your hand when closed.
