If there’s one thing we learned from the corpcore craze, a sweeping runway trend that subverts the expectations of workwear, it’s that the work-life divide is a myth. To dress for success is to allow room for self-expression. The same idea applies to your ride—just because you’re driving to the office doesn’t mean the commute has to be dreary. That’s what the Maserati Grecale is all about.
Positioning itself as an everyday car–albeit an elevated one, of course–the new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is a high-style automobile with a shiv hidden in its sheath. Its architecture-inspired contemporary design speaks subtle luxury, especially with the smooth, sultry lines, now that the Grecale takes on a vertical rather than a horizontal aspect to meet the requirements of an SUV.
Now, we like to think that a car is an extension of our personal style. The low and striking grille at the front—a detail that anchors the Grecale’s exterior—shall resonate with those of us whose wardrobe brims with pinstripe suits and pencil skirts. In the rear, the boomerang taillights add to the car’s aesthetic with trapezoidal lines synonymous with the Italian luxury automaker.
A similar design code is reflected on the inside. A best-in-class SUV in terms of spaciousness and comfort, the Grecale’s interior boasts fine materials such as wood, carbon fibre, and leather. The GT variant, for instance, exudes a feeling of subtle luxury with a Saffiano leatherwork-inspired leather dashboard insert, combined with burnished inserts on the central console and door panel.
Another thoughtful feature worthy of note is the lighting fixture behind the central display that produces a “living room” effect—the first time in a car. So, it wouldn’t matter if you’re trapped in the ceaseless city traffic as the soft, diffused lighting will make you feel at ease. Put some calming tunes on if needed and bask in the rich acoustics of the Sonus Faber multi-dimensional sound system.
Speaking of which, the Grecale is endowed with state-of-the-art technical specifications, particularly the Maserati Intelligent Assistant in-vehicle infotainment system. Powered by Android Automotive OS, you can easily access its many controls on the 12.3’’ screen—the largest ever included in a Maserati—such as navigation, media, drive modes, and vehicle settings.
The beautiful digital surfaces, accorded by the four screens in the cabin, not only contribute to the interior’s sleek outlook but also transform the panels into blank canvases with the elimination of crowded buttons. It doesn’t hurt that there’s more room now for the spacious armrest, the large storage compartment with double butterfly doors, and the mobile phone charging area.
But how does the vehicle fare on the road, you ask? We’re happy to report that the gorgeous Grecale lives up to the Trident brand’s stature, with the perfect touch of Italian luxury. The six-cylinder 3000-cc twin-turbo engine, specifically, makes the vehicle an absolute beast on the tarmac as it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds (Trofeo version) and is capable of reaching a top speed of 285km/h.
That said, the car does offer five different drive modes—Comfort, GT, Sport, Corsa, and Off-Road—to allow you to configure the car according to your speed. The Grecale is also available in various trims to suit different lifestyles, namely the GT, Modena, Trofeo, and very soon the Folgore—the first fully electrified SUV in Maserati’s history to cater to the eco-conscious drivers.
Worthy of its “Everyday Exceptional” tagline, the Maserati Grecale makes a strong case for a performance car with a peerless visual identity. It embodies the brand’s all-Italian audacity in making luxury and exceptional performance part of the daily routine—something that shall strike a chord with the Drivers of Change, as we’d like to call it, who appreciate the finer things in life.
