Could it be? Will PR queen Samantha Jones reunite with the gang for And Just Like That‘s third season? Well, according to rumours, the potential for a Kim Cattrall cameo was a sure thing.
Over the weekend, an article proliferated on X speculated that Cattrall was set to revive her iconic role for the Sex and the City reboot’s upcoming season. As reported by Life & Style, “it’s widely believed” that the actress would play a significant role and that the series was “just waiting for the right time to announce it.”
Naturally, a flurry of fans flooded the social media platform to express their joy over the news—until Cattrall set the record straight that she would not be returning.
“Aw, that’s so kind, but I’m not,” she wrote on X.
Cattrall was not part of the initial reboot’s cast when it debuted in 2021, but she did make a surprise cameo in season two’s finale, where she shared a phone call with Sarah Jessica Parker‘s character, Carrie Bradshaw—the two did not film together, though.
Rumours of a feud between the Sex and the City foursome first circulated in 2004 when Cattrall didn’t sit with her costars at the Emmys.
Tensions between Cattrall and the cast reportedly stemmed from being excluded outside of filming and worsened when Parker, the show’s lead, was offered more money to take on an executive producer title for the show’s second season and beyond.
In 2018, things took a tragic turn when Cattrall’s brother unexpectedly passed away. Parker offered her condolences via Instagram, but this didn’t quite land, and the feud hit a fever pitch.
Cattrall then posted text that read, “I do not need your love or support at this tragic time, @sarahjessicaparker.”
“My Mom asked me today, ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,” read her caption. “Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
In an interview with People, Parker confirmed that she resigned to not patching things up after the barb.
“I actually never responded,” she revealed. “And I won’t because she needed to say what she needed to say, and that is her privilege.”
Call us optimists, but we’re not completely writing off another cameo from the actress in the series. And if not, at least they didn’t kill off the great Samantha Jones, as some rumours suggested.
