Superstar Katy Perry has arrived Down Under ahead of performing at the Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 28.
The 39-year-old musician and mother-of-one will perform multiple hit tracks from her career and “1.5 songs” from her new album 143, the latter receiving a lukewarm reception at best. Perry has teased she is also bringing a special guest to the AFL stage and all we know about the identity of this person is it is a beloved Australian female star.
“And she’s a Scorpio,” Perry told The Project. “So, that’s another hint for your digging.”
This could include Delta Goodrem who is a Scorpio and a huge Sydney Swans fan.
When probed who she will be backing at Saturday’s Grand Final—the Sydney Swans or the Brisbane Lions—Perry, who doesn’t usually follow AFL, had a clever response.
“I know I’m singing [my single] ‘Roar’ but there is no advantage to the Brisbane Lions. I was going to sing it before the Lions got into the Grand Final!” she joked. “I’ll stay Switzerland on who [I’m hoping to win] but I’m pretty confused: How did Melbourne not make it? They have 12 teams! They had 12 opportunities!”
Perry is performing hot off the back of her incredible MTV Video Music Awards performance where she received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
“[Like the VMAs, my AFL performance] is going to be that futuristic, next-level type of stuff. I’ll be singing all the songs people know and one-and-a-half new ones, but mostly the ones people can sing along to,” Perry said. “This is basically a big appetiser for what I’m about to do on tour here in Australia.”
Perry has announced an Australian tour which will kick off on June 9, 2025, in Sydney. The tour wraps up in Perth on June 22 with the artist set to perform in Melbourne on June 12 and 13 and Brisbane on June 17. See details for Katy Perry’s The Lifetimes Tour here.
The AFL’s Sydney Swans VS. Brisbane Lions Grand Final mach will kick off at 2.30pm AEST on September 28.
