What a Serve! The Lowdown on GRAZIA Malaysia’s First Anniversary Party

Scha Alyahya, Nia Atasha, Nazreem Musa, and more of KL's most stylish turned up for the celebration.

One year and 13 issues later, GRAZIA Malaysia has cemented itself on the fashion forefront in Kuala Lumpur, as evident by the 400 stylish guests that came to celebrate our first anniversary. Held at Boathouse by the Lake in Ampang, the gorgeous glasshouse-style space overlooked the lake that displayed sunset hues as twilight descended, transforming the venue into a sparkling scene. What made it even better? Guests could be ferried to the event venue on a Vespa—so Italian chic—while electric BYD cars were on display for those who wish to have an eco-friendly commute in the future. Nature was also brought indoors with bright flowers from BloomThis adorning nearly every corner of the event space.

We gave the guests a mission: to put on their best Preppy Chic looks for the party. They came, they saw, and they served looks. It was amazing to see how everyone gave their interpretation of preppy chic, from Christinna Kuan’s yellow plaid two-piece skirt suit reminiscent of Cher in Clueless, to Eros “The KLCC Boy” Erfe’s schoolboy-inspired outfit and violinist Josh Kua’s country club look. Alas, we could only crown five people with the “Best Dressed” title, and those went to our former cover girls Nia Atasha and Scha Alyahya, content creator Lee Xuan, fashionista Nazreem Musa, and designer Ethan Chu.

While the guests worked hard at preparing their preppy chic outfits, the GRAZIA Malaysia team worked hard at giving everyone a good time at the party. Upon arrival, guests were provided with a special QR code that led to a little page of activities to check out at the event. First things first—the weather was perfect enough for a spot of evening mini golf. We even made it a little competitive: the first 50 people to get a hole-in-one would get a special prize. Inside, there was a long line headed towards the photo booth, where guests could take countless printout photos with their friends.

If they didn’t feel like exerting themselves, they could also head inside and be pampered with a hand spa session from Trove, with Natura Bisse products. In case you missed it, Natura Bisse is a Barcelona-based luxury skincare brand that has just landed on Malaysian shores via Trove. It is favoured by some of the top celebrities in the world—including Queen Bey herself, whose mother introduced her to the wonders of the skincare brand.

Liquid libations flowed aplenty as well at the GRAZIA Malaysia first anniversary party, and there was something for everyone. Mumm Marlborough came through with a steady flow of Brut Prestige sparkling wine, while the Jacob’s Creek Shiraz captured the hearts (and glasses) of others. Those with an affinity for cocktails were sated with a myriad of cocktails made with Chivas XV and Martell cognac. There was also Connor’s stout beer, which was particularly interactive as guests got to learn how to “shake and pour” Connor’s stout right out of the can to achieve that classic foam top that you could typically only get from draught beer.

When we say there’s something for everyone, we do mean it. Got a sweet tooth? Guests could be seen enjoying ice cream from Gula Creamery, while those who preferred not to imbibe could indulge in coffee and matcha drinks from homegrown brand MN Coffee. All this while DJ I-SKY spun tunes, later giving way to local band Palencia to get everyone singing along.

But wait, there’s more. Guests were buzzing in anticipation because other than the checklist of activities to do at the GRAZIA Malaysia anniversary party, there was also a lucky draw prize that caught everyone’s attention: a pair of return flight tickets to Milan, sponsored by Turkish Airlines. We saved the best for last and left the fate of the lucky draw winner to a randomiser, and the fates picked Scha Alyahya—how lucky!

As the night drew to a close and guests began leaving, we had one last gift for them: a door gift of goodies, filled with gifts and vouchers from The M•A•C• Clinic, Evolcare, and Ultimate Aesthetics Gallery, as well as GRAZIA Malaysia merchandise and magazines.
