Barbiemania has reached the deliberating room of the Hollywood Foreign Associate Press.

Similar to results at the box office, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer trailed closely behind with eight nominations, including that of the perennial cheekbone actor, Cillian Murphy. The Irish leading man portrayed theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in the historical epic.

As expected, the plastic fantastic hysteria—and the film’s $1 billion box office price tag—has swept all leading categories for the 2024 Golden Globes, with the Margot Robbie-helmed production receiving nine nominations for its deliciously tongue-in-cheek feminist retelling of the silicon icon.

The year’s biggest blockbuster event was the unprecedented double billing of the two films, with ‘Barbenheimer’ dominating the cultural zeitgeist in movie theatres and online.

(Editor’s note: If you’re yet to see Barbie or Oppenheimer, we highly recommend leaning into the craze and watching Greta Gerwig’s grenadine amuse bouche first before diving into Nolan’s gripping martini hour).

It was also a huge win for the Irish, with three netizens’ collective boyfriends, Cillian Murphy, Andrew Scott and Barry Keoughan receiving nominations in the ‘Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama’ category.

In the television category, the fourth and final season of Succession received its just deserts, with all of the main cast receiving nominations for their portrayals of mourning billionaires.

The 2024 Golden Globes will air on January 8. Before the ceremony begins, scroll ahead for the big-ticket names and nominees you need to know.
