When asked to choose a number of adjectives to describe herself, Shalma Ainaa aptly delivers her answers in a single breath. “I’m an entrepreneur, a fashion designer, a TV host and a part-time content creator. A lot of it exists on YouTube, and I find it to be a great creative outlet for me to document my life. It’s unserious and shows the real me,” she explains with a smile.

At 33, Shalma has achieved so much, a collection of accolades, a stature that is adored by many and yearned for by others. Looking at her long list of creative ventures, one can’t help but relate her widely known celebrity status and success to her innate keenness to partake in things of her interest. Her very clear like it, try it attitude is commendable, for the saying rings true: fortune favours the brave.

Being a goal-driven person who is simultaneously inspired by the successes of others, Shalma is in a perpetual state of learning. Though choosing to only highlight her successes across the platforms she subsists on, the designer and TV personality admits to an almost undeniable fact—she too faces failures, an inevitability that creatives of any repute endure.

“Nothing is easy,” she explains, but the perspective in which one operates greatly influences the outcome of one’s success. Stimulating her creativity and cultivating ideas for her creative endeavours is done through observation, something her contemporaries also partake in. From perusing the internet and simply watching the world around her go by, another area of invigoration toward her creativity is maintained through the conversations she has with her industry peers.

“I have my friends in the industry, leaders in their own rights of the creative industry—editors, writers, photographers, other brand owners and artists who have varied understanding of things.” She continues her journey in growing and learning, voraciously and eagerly expanding her world to keep her creativity alive.
