Cloaked in a dark slate grey robe, image architect Law Roach guided his muse, the inimitable Zendaya, onto the sandy carpet of the Dune: Part 2 premiere in London on February 15. While the style duo have been hell bent on fulfilling the futuristic brief all tour, this robotic suit of armour—a Thierry Mugler couture number from 1995—shocked guests at Leicester Square, in a very good way.
Despite the piece’s stiffness, the 27-year-old star shone—quite literally—as she posed and moved with an ease that could rival the Tin Man along the yellow brick road.
The suit was the star attraction of Mugler’s most legendary show: Autumn/Winter haute couture 1995, an hour-long extravaganza where confetti rained down on the audience as male go-go dancers gyrated with the cast of performers. You can watch the spectacle here.
It’s a nice moment for Roach who copped criticism last year for his alleged balking to being sat behind Zendayaat the Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2023 show in Paris. Shortly after, he retired as a stylist, before sort of renegging on that idea.
“I don’t have to style Zendaya to be a part of her team and her creativity team, right?” Roach said in an interview with The Cut. “So maybe if I choose, you know, not to be her stylist, I can still be her creative director and I can still, you know, manage a stylist or however I choose to do it. I haven’t made a decision. She’s giving me the grace to be able to make that decision because we really have a kinship. Like, you know, we’ve grown up together. And that’s all I ever asked, was for people who I worked so hard for to just give me grace when I need it.”
Whatever the story, we love the duo together. Margot Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal, look away now.
