If there’s one thing we can never overlook, it’s that ‘coincidence’ is not a thing in Taylor Swift’s world. Famed for dropping hints and ‘Easter eggs’ for fans to decode, the pop star is a mastermind of getting her subliminal messaging across.
And now, as we anticipate updates on her latest album re-record, Swift seems to confirm that Reputaiton is on the way.
Stepping out with bestie Blake Lively while on break from her Eras Tour, the 34-year-old glammed up in a crushed velvet mini dress in a mossy green hue. But if that was too subtle, her footwear made more of a statement. A pair of over-the-knee boots from the Jimmy Choo x Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration, her shoes were adorned with images of snakes—the main imagery for the album.
Where did the imagery come from? If you’re not familiar with the beef, the significance of the snake came after Kim Kardashian leaked a video of her then-husband Kanye West on the phone to the singer, where he is depicted asking for permission to mention her in a song. Once the song dropped, though, Swift called out West for the derogatory nature of the inclusion, to which Kardashian then released the clip.
Kardashian/West fans responded by flooding Swift’s social pages with snake emojis, suggesting she was double-crossing the couple. But even though Swift knew about the rapper’s intentions, she clapped back at the drama by asserting that she was misled on the call, as the duo didn’t explain that the mention in question included the lyrics:
I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex
Why? I made that bitch famous
After taking a break from the public arena, Swift came back with her sixth studio album, Reputation, on November 10, 2017, in which snakes appeared prominently throughout, including in her music video for ‘Look What You Made Me Do’.
For the 81st annual Golden Globes on January 7, Swift also repped a slinky custom Gucci gown, which seemed to mimic snake scales with its bright green sequins.
While there’s no confirmed date for the release, her recent outings that have seen the hints go from subtle snake rings to full-blown snake-inspired gowns tell us that we won’t be waiting long…
