K-pop girl group NewJeans will now go by their new band name: NJZ.
They shared the news via a collaborative Instagram post between American media and entertainment company Complex, the band’s official Instagram handle and more. The band also shared that they will be headlining ComplexCon in Hong Kong.
“Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein’s new group name: NJZ,” the post wrote. “Get ready for an exciting journey with NJZ in 2025! Stay tuned,” it added. The post showed the quintet dressed in chic ensembles, with liquid-style metallic wordings behind them that read “NJZ”. This comes amidst the band’s ongoing legal battle with ADOR, a South Korean independent record label under Hybe.
In a statement, member Minji said: “We are thrilled to be stepping onto the stage for the first time as NJZ and share something new with everyone”. “It’s a big moment for us and we can’t wait for fans to be a part of this journey,” she added.
At an emergency press conference they held last year, NJZ also acknowledged that they may not be able to use their former name.
“However, that doesn’t mean that we are giving up on the name at all, and we will continue to fight for NewJeans,” Danielle said. Then, NJZ also ended the session with a timely reminder. “Regardless of our name, just remember that NewJeans never dies,” they said.
Meanwhile, the band has also renamed their Instagram account @jeanzforfree, to their current one @njz_official.
