Lady Gaga’s chart-topping 2011 hit Born This Way gave birth to a whole generation who are proud to be exactly who they are. But in a world that often chooses to be cruel instead of kind, it can be hard to maintain a poker face. Lady Gaga, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, knows this well. A victim of bullying herself in her younger days before fame, the pop superstar is now a loud and proud advocate for mental health and inclusivity.
Baby, She was Born This Way
A great example? Back in 2012, Lady Gaga co-founded her Born This Way Foundation with her mother (awwww), Cynthia Bisset Germanotta. This charitable mother-daughter venture works towards making kindness cool and providing resources to help support the mental health of the youth. Clearly Miss Gaga doesn’t just live for the applause, and she got it from her mama.
This year, the Oscar-nominated actress’ Born This Way Foundation aims to raise $5 million USD for global mental health. To reach this massive goal, the Rain on Me singer has partnered with none other than our favourite everyday clothing brand, Cotton On. Forget being in a bad romance, this is Lady Gaga’s best relationship yet!
A Kinder World is Our Kinda World
Cotton On x Born This Way Foundation with Lady Gaga came together to create a range of limited-edition products. The collection, named A Kinder World Is Our Kinda World, will be available from the 1st of September to the 10th of October 2023, marking World Mental Health Day.
But how does selling caps, T-shirts, tote bags, stationery, and a denim jacket help support the mental health of the youth, you ask? By donating all (as in 100%) of the net proceeds to the Born This Way Foundation, of course. The products aren’t designed with the slogan ‘Kinder, Braver, Together’ just for show, all of the profit will go towards delivering resources, skills, and all the support necessary in building kinder and braver communities.
Cotton On x Born This Way Foundation with Lady Gaga doesn’t just end with the collection. The collaboration will also help in supporting Born This Way Foundation initiatives such as the ‘Be There Certificate’, a free online mental health course. Young people all over the world can nominate their local mental health organisations which will be in the running to receive funding up to MYR698,000! Lady Gaga may not live for the applause but she certainly deserves one.
The limited edition collection is available for purchase here.
