It’s been 12 years since the last episode of Gossip Girl aired, but Ed Westwick’s recent nuptials at a coastal Italian chateau have given us a glimpse at where the beloved character’s lives might’ve taken them in that time. Indeed, the English actor wed fellow actress and model Amy Jackson at a mediaeval castle along the Amalfi Coast, with the bride and groom exchanging “I dos” in designs crafted by preeminent Milanese luxuriates; Alberta Ferretti and Giorgio Armani respectively.
Yet, it was the emotional speech given by his former co-star (and fictional stepmother) Kelly Rutherford that really would pull on the heartstrings of fans. Emulating their characters Lily Van Der Woodsen and Chuck Bass, Rutherford led a sweet toast to the newlywed.
“I truly feel like the most grateful for our friendship and to be able to work with you was such a gift,” said the actress and perennial ‘Birkin Mum’. “To be able to watch you fall in love…I’m going to cry. No, truly it is the most beautiful thing in life and you are such a beautiful man.”
Eschewing her Upper East Side persona for the colourful wedding, Rutherford emulated the Slim Aarons jet set in a floral gown from La Double J. It didn’t appear that anyone else from the core cast, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chase Crawford or Penn Badgley, received an invite.
In the lead-up to the wedding, Rutherford shared a quote on Instagram that could be viewed as a rationale for the guest list. It read: “If you’re wondering who your people are, they are the ones who make your heart seen and your nervous system feel clean. Yes, it’s that simple.”
Westwick himself shared his excitement for this new chapter, sharing a suite of images from the ceremony with the caption, “The journey has just begun 💍”.
