Sabrina Carpenter may have begged her boyfriend Barry Keoghan to ‘please, please, please’ not embarrass her in the 2024 viral single of the same name. However, according to new reports, the burgeoning couple’s love story has taken a turn inspired by the name of her upcoming sixth studio album: Short n’ Sweet.

Indeed, the songstress is said to have broken up with the Saltburn star, with The Sun alleging Carpenter broke up with Keoughan “because his party lifestyle was getting in the way of their relationship”. As per a source, the Irish actor is claimed to “act like an idiot when he is drunk and Sabrina was getting increasingly frustrated”.

“He has always been a party animal and Sabrina was fed up with his antics. She is soaring in the charts and is putting herself first as she gears up for her tour next month,” they add. Anonymous gossip monger DeuxMoi also published a similar submission, though did not go into further details.

Despite the gossip, Keoghan and Carpenter’s social media activity doesn’t seem to hint at any rifts, with The Masters Of The Air actor liking her most recent post on Instagram. Keoghan himself subtly addressed his relationship status on his own account by sharing a rare photo of his son, two-year-old Brando. “He’s more of a charmer than I am. Our wee Brando ☘️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿,” he wrote as the accompanying caption.

But in a new interview with The Guardian, the 25-year-old somewhat responded to the rumours. Opening up about the music video collaboration with Keoghan, she described the experience as “one of the best I’ve ever had,” adding, “I’m so honoured to have worked with such an incredible actor.” Though the interviewer emphasises a strict ‘no personal questions’ brief, the article does refer to the actor as “Carpenter’s then-boyfriend,” leading many to speculate the split as fact.

Carpenter and Keoughan were last spotted publicly during a date night at London’s Chiltern Firehouse in June. The couple confirmed their relationship with the mob wife-themed music video for her aforementioned single but have rarely interacted since.

In the interview, Carpenter also reflected on her decision to maintain an inkling of privacy in the spotlight. “In this era of social media, it’s difficult to keep anything private,” she explained. “It’s not what I signed up for, but it’s the reality of the time we live in… I just want to be honest and write about what’s happening in my life as a 25-year-old woman.”
