While Paris Fashion Week remains the star-studded epicentre of fashion excellence in Europe, Anya Taylor-Joy has given us grounds to turn our attention back to Venice after the conclusion of this year’s sartorially masterful film festival. The explanation for this sudden interest in the Lido? The actress’ nuptials to her musician husband Malcolm McRae.
Over the first weekend in October, Taylor-Joy and the multi-instrumental musician—who is most notably part of the two-person alternative rock band More*—wed in the Italian city of Venice at the palatial Palazzo Pisani Moretta.
It’s reported that the couple exchanged vows in front of approximately 150 guests, including Taylor-Joy’s The Menu co-star Nicholas Hoult and fellow friend of Dior, Cara Delevingne.
With the actress revered for her character-driven red-carpet attire, it would always be the case that the 27-year-old would eschew the ‘white wedding dress’ trope for her ceremony. Instead, Taylor-Joy wore a muted beige gown adorned with intricate embroidery, including a bespoke hummingbird and floral motif emblazoned on her corseted bustier’s canvas.
The dress cascaded from a skin-sculpting bodice into a protruding Princess-esque skirt, with whimsical appliquéd sequins and threads of shimmering blue, black and silver spelling out phrases along the length of the gown.
Notably, Taylor-Joy’s dress also pays homage to her and McRae’s zodiacs, with the constellations and sigils of their astrological signs cleverly hidden amongst the layers of soft beige tulle.
It’s not confirmed who designed the dress, but it’s certainly one of the best interpretations of the ‘unconventional wedding dress’ we’ve seen in recent memory.
Ahead of tying the not, Taylor-Joy and McRae sat side-by-side at Dior’s Spring/Summer 2024 runway show earlier in the month.
Coincidentally, the actress also announced the launch of her new campaign with jewellery maison Tiffany & Co. at the same time she was walking down the aisle. Talk about a bait and switch.
While we await the release of the official wedding gallery, take a look here at our first glimpse of the wedding.
