For 16 years, we’ve bared witness to Adele’s heartbreaking love ballads—her 2021 album, 30, which chronicled the emotions surrounding her divorce nearly broke us. But on August 8 2024, the 16-time Grammy winner gave audiences at her Munich concert a love life update: she’s getting married, again!
After three years together and swirling rumours, Adele, 36, confirmed her engagement to sports agent Rich Paul, 42, to the largely German crowd on Thursday. A fan jokingly asked if the singer could marry them, reports the New York Post.
“I can’t marry you because I’m already getting married so, I can’t,” Adele responded before revealing her engagement ring. Cue: an uproar from the crowd. Imagine the wedding dress! See the moment here.
Meeting on a dance floor in 2019, it would take Adele and Paul—who reps NBA greats like LeBron James—a couple of years before meeting again.
“We went out for dinner, which he says was a business meeting and I’m like ‘A business meeting about what?’ And then it was the first time we hung out on our own,” Adele told Oprah in an interview in November 2021.
“He’s just hilarious,” she continued. “He’s so funny. And very smart. Very, very smart. It’s quite incredible watching him do what he does and just the easiness of it and very smooth.”
The powerhouse singer was previously married to British charity entrepreneur Simon Konecki, 50. They share one son, Angelo, who was born in 2012. Paul has three children from a previous relationship.
“It made me really sad,” Adele told Rolling Stone of her divorce from Konecki. “Then having so many people that I don’t know know that I didn’t make that work … it f**king devastated me. I was embarrassed. No one made me feel embarrassed, but you feel like you didn’t do a good job.”
She’s living proof that even after your lowest days post a breakup, it can all turn around. Consider this your sign to say yes to that “business meeting.”
