Welcome back, 2NE1. The girl group, comprising Sandara Park, Park Bom, CL and Minzy, will soon return with concerts in Seoul and beyond, it seems.
In a newly-dropped video on YG Entertainment’s YouTube channel, Yang Hyun-suk, head of the entertainment label, dished out updates on artists under the label.
He started off by speaking on 2NE1, which he termed as “the first successful YG girl group”.
Making their debut in 2009 with Fire (2009), the girl group said their goodbyes to the industry collectively with a farewell song Goodbye (2017).
This year, the quartet informed Yang that “they’d like to hold a concert commemorating their 15th anniversary”.
“So we caught up and happily discussed, making it all happen within this year,” he added.
They will be staging a show in Seoul starting in early October. The performance venue has since been booked, according to Yang.
The tour will continue in Osaka and Tokyo for the end of November and December. However, the label is still “in the process of adjusting schedules for further performances” at present.
“I think this concert will be quite special,” Yang admitted. “It resonates with those who grew up with 2NE1’s music, sharing those memories [together]”.
2NE1 now has plenty of hit songs under their belt, including I Am The Best (2011), Come Back Home (2014) and more. They were also one of the pioneering artists who led the girl crush wave.
They were also known for their unorthodox fashion styles and boundary-pushing music.
Separately, 2NE1 did come back with a reunion stage momentarily at the 2022 edition of Coachella. They performed I Am the Best (2011) as a complete quartet.
