Beauty brands have long recruited celebrities to front campaigns in an attempt to lure in the masses and their populism has paid off. From Charlize Theron as the face of Dior’s J’Adore (newly replaced by Rihanna) to Bella Hadid for Charlotte Tilbury, A-listers have been able to boost a brand’s reputation and, ultimately, sales. While a famous face has been established as a failsafe way to push product, Tom Ford Beauty has, until now, managed to do quite alright without one. That’s all about to change, however, as the designer beauty brand has just unveiled its first-ever celebrity ambassador, Angelina Jolie.
Arguably for the brand, finding the right face for the right product was certainly worth the wait. Jolie is fronting a campaign for Tom Ford’s Runway Lip Colour, a new collection of luxury lipsticks that condition lips with fade-proof colour. Available in 18 shades, including 10 existing and eight new, the upcoming colour cosmetics offering from the label drops in September.
To accompany it, Tom Ford will unveil its new campaign with Jolie on 3rd September. Captured by visual artists Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, it captures Jolie wearing the brand’s existing shade 16 Scarlet Rouge, a bold and clever choice that speaks to the power of a red lip.
In a statement released by Tom Ford, the brand said, ‘An inveterate trailblazer, Jolie drives her personal narrative with strength, confidence and an uncompromising commitment to self-expression. An Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Tony Award winner, Jolie has established herself as an international icon in film, theatre and fashion. She goes beyond what the role of an artist can be, parlaying her influence through her humanitarian work, with over 20 years in the field, focusing on refugees and human rights. Additionally, as a fashion entrepreneur, she recently founded Atelier Jolie, a hub for artists, empowering people to participate in creating their own fashion, with a focus on sustainability.’
The new collection will replace Tom Ford’s existing Lip Colour lipsticks franchise, giving the category a renewed vigour. With that comes an expansion of nude shades in the new line up, as well as Runway Lip Pencils, available in eight shades. Get ready for a new era of Tom Ford Beauty.
