The 2024 Cannes Film Festival is officially in full swing, after a full first week. In the event’s first 48 hours, we’ve already seen Meryl Streep be awarded an honorary Palme d’Or (which was followed by a two-minute standing ovation) and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga actor Anya Taylor-Joy has already delivered multiple fashion moments.
But of course, the red carpet at the internationally acclaimed film festival is not only home to some of the most eye-catching fashion moments, but also to some stunning beauty moments. After all, last year gave us the cutesy rope braid from Blackpink’s Jennie as well as the stylish old Hollywood bob as seen on Grace Elizabeth. This year, we’re expecting no less. From the red carpet of the 2024 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, here are the best beauty moments that we’ve spotted.
Anya Taylor-Joy
For Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, directed by George Miller, Anya Taylor-Joy took on vintage glamour in a tall twisted updo, that kept her white blonde locks away from her major bijoux moment. In keeping with the sophisticated look, the actor used Dior Beauty to achieve a simple winged liner look, while adding a pop of colour with a true red pout.
Araya Alberta Hargate
Thai actor and model Araya Alberta Hargate looked like a doll on Day 1 of the Cannes Film Festival. With her dramatically extended eyeliner and long spidery lashes, it’s hard to keep your eyes off her. Plus, the star opted for a tight updo to pair with her elegant gown, finishing off the hairstyle in the back with a perfect swoop.
Naomi Campbell
Supermodel Naomi Campbell took to the red carpet in vintage Chanel but it was her glam that truly made the look. Rather than keep the slicked-back hairstyle that she wore down the runway in the ’90s, 2024 Naomi wore her curls naturally, letting the volume speak, well, volumes. Her makeup, while understated, still carries some gloss and shimmer, from the peachy nude lip to the silver eyeshadow. Major love!
Margaret Qualley
On the red carpet, natural, curly hair is finally getting its moment in the sun, as seen on Margaret Qualley. The American actress who was in Cannes for the premiere of The Substance’, embraced her coiled locks in their full glory on the red carpet. She accessorised the bob with a fun silver barrette that tied the look in with her strappy pastel pink dress.
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh took us all by surprise on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in her newly debuted bangs. The 61-year-old actor opted for a fringed hairstyle, to match her fringed maroon Bottega Veneta dress. The youthful look is a departure from the experienced actor’s typical red carpet fashions, which previously have been more timeless approaches.
Hunter Schafer
A pillar of elegance on the red carpet was Euphoria‘s Hunter Schafer. In a reflective, periwinkle gown, the actress kept her dirty blonde hair in a classic bun, while keeping her makeup look simple and monochromatic to let the glitz of her outfit shine through. There’s an art to acing simple, understated makeup and Schafer’s got it down pat.
Selena Gomez
For the film Emilia Perez, Selena Gomez wore her hair in a relaxed ponytail on the red carpet. The Rare Beauty founder also chose a nude glam for the look. Don’t be fooled though, the singer and actor made sure her skin was smooth and flawless—the secret to achieving a clean makeup look.
Chiara King
For Chiara King’s first time on the iconic red carpet in Cannes, the Bird In A Cage singer opted for a look inspired by Aphrodite. To compliment her sleek wet hair look, King brought the ocean’s energy to her glam by covering her lids with an icy blue shadow. One of the most creative looks at Cannes so far, if you ask us.
