Just as everyone knows it’s a big no-no to get a haircut right before any major life event, celebrities know that getting an invasive facial procedure before a big gala is a no-go zone. Why? Many things can go wrong, including not having enough downtime and the possibility of a botched procedure. It’s probably why the CACI (Computer Aided Cosmetology Instrument) Non-Surgical Face Lift facial treatment is so popular among A-list celebrities such as Anya Taylor-Joy, Kim Kardashian, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez, to name a few.
I recently got to try this much-touted treatment at ESSA Spa in Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur recently, tended to by Mary Overton, CACIs Global Export Manager herself. She explains to me that the CACI Synergy+ system is the product of over 30 years of research and development. At first look, the machine itself is intimidating, with all its tools—almost like operating a space machine. I quickly learnt that this “facial computer” incorporates Simultaneous Photo Electrical Delivery (S.P.E.D), which is a microcurrent technology and combines that with simultaneous LED skin rejuvenation and microcurrent facial toning.
The combination of these two technologies make up what CACI is so known for: non-invasive facial toning, giving you that “botox” effect without the needles. But it’s more than just that—CACI is also designed to help with skin exfoliation, rejuvenation, promoting collagen production, alleviating lines and wrinkles, and soothe sun-damaged skin. We typically go for facials that solve one problem or the other, but this looks to be a one-stop-solution to nearly everything!
The CACI Non-Surgical Face Lift treatment at ESSA Spa also isn’t your typical sort of facial. After a makeup removal followed by a cleanse, my session immediately begins. Overton walks me through the treatment as she’s performing it on me, and she starts with the Orbital Skin Resurfacing, which combines LED light and crystal-free skin dermabrasion, a sort of exfoliating process for the skin. There is a feeling of vibration on the skin and with my eyes closed, almost as though a pebble is being run over my skin—but not in an uncomfortable way.
Overton also performs Wrinkle Reduction on me, which uses the brand’s Wrinkle Comb Technology and LED light therapy to target deep lines and wrinkles. I have a particularly deep wrinkle on the forehead above my right eyebrow, and I am quite keen on making it look less visible, so Overton concentrates on that part. It is apparently an alternative to dermal fillers.
Finally, it is time for the piece de resistance of the treatment: the SPED Dual Action Microcurrent Technology. I am slightly afraid, but the microcurrents are not actually painful. Overton uses two of the pronged devices to target areas that need lifting—particularly my cheeks, smile lines, and jawline—and does her magic of sweeping, pinching, and lifting. This is meant to “retrain” the facial muscles to be perky again and reduce sagging. There are the occasional small jolts that keep me on my toes, but it is otherwise a fairly calming session.
90 minutes later, and I’m done with the treatment. Visibly, my skin looks more radiant and refreshed, while there are signs of slight lifting in the jaw area. I’m advised to not wear any makeup for the next few hours to really let all the goodness settle in. Overton also tells me that most customers will come for several sessions to upkeep and enhance results from the treatment.
The 90-minute CACI Non-Surgical Face Lift treatment is priced from MYR1,180+ per person per session and is available exclusively at ESSA Spa in Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.
