At the Vanity Table With… is a series that dives into a personality’s beauty tips, tricks, non-negotiables, and more. In this edition, Athisha Khan shares her most recent beauty obsessions—including her love for her sister’s recently-dropped blushers.
When practically everyone in your family is dubbed a public figure, it can be incredibly easy to get lost in the noise. But that is not the case for the 26-year-old. Instead, she managed to carve a unique and comfortable spot for herself. Where her two sisters dominate in fashion and beauty, Athisha instead turns to loungewear and planners to mirror her calm and collected personality.
Of course, her lifestyle brand Flip is not all that she’s got her hands on. She also dedicates her time to posting vlogs on YouTube, where she has garnered over 300,000 subscribers. And that’s on top of her Instagram account, which currently stacks at half a million followers. From these two social media platforms, viewers can follow the beauty enthusiast as she travels, dine, and honestly, live.
Nowadays, she splits her time between Kuala Lumpur and London, which means she gets to explore all the beauty goodies that we might not have as handy on our side of the globe. As it turns out, there are quite a few hits that we’re missing out on. Ahead, she shares her beauty opinions, must-haves, and little fun facts that make her Athisha Khan.
Confess a beauty crime that you have committed before
Neglecting SPF. You’ll never catch me going to bed with makeup on or giving myself a haircut but a beauty crime I can’t seem to run away from is being inconsistent with my SPF. My skin is generally oilier in the T-zone and I’ve not yet found a sunscreen that doesn’t add to the problem and breaks me out.
A beauty item you would immediately replace if lost
It has to be a mascara, hands down. And if I lose it, I’ll only be replacing it with tubing mascaras from now on.
Three items that are on your beauty wish list right now
Just like everyone, I had my heart set on the Rhode Peptide Lip Tint in Cinnamon Roll. It’s a limited edition for Hailey Bieber’s birthday, but it’s already sold out. I also added the Guerlain Abeille Royale Shampoo and Conditioner to my list. I’ve already gone through one set, and I’m in love. Lastly, and it’s pretty random, but I’m thinking of getting myself a steel gua sha.
A person you have the biggest beauty crush on, and why?
For me, it’s Olivia Jade. She’s gorgeous and laid-back, and her beauty routine highlights a lot of her natural features. She has her full glam days, of course, but her day-to-day look deserves more love from the girls.
Something you’re gatekeeping right now. Spill.
Djerf Avenue Beauty’s On the Go Styling Gel is just incredible. All the ongoing drama aside, this may just be the best hair gel out there for me. It holds any slick looks with no crunchy feeling, it smells amazing, and your hair feels good at the end of the day. Ultimately, it’s not a hassle to wash off, so it gets a 10 out of 10 from me.
A trend that needs to die
The overly brushed-up brows… It’s just not for me. It’s worse if it looks as if it’s plastered to the forehead.
A viral product that does nothing for you
It’s the REFY Brow Sculpt but it’s 100% a user problem. It could also be tied to the fact that I don’t really like that super perfect brow look on me anyway.
A makeup step you will never skip before you head out the door
Of course, it’s blush. Extra bonus points if it’s the Ellemkay’s baby blush.
The skincare item that completely transformed your skin for the better
Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum. It’s maybe the one thing I don’t shut up about. I scar quite easily so even if I get a pimple for one day, it takes a while for the post-acne scar to fully go away. They’re not completely gone yet but this one serum has completely changed the game for me.
Your trick to achieve the best hair day
I know this is boring of me, but honestly a good hair wash can be just what you need. I don’t think it takes a lot for hair to look its best and to me it looks best clean, and even more so when it has that fluffy finish.
An unexpected beauty hack you always incorporate into your routine
La Prairie Skin Caviar The Mist is nearly always with me. That’s how I refresh my skin throughout the day!
An underrated perfume you think everyone should give a chance to
Everyone needs to try out Hermès Oud Alezan. The perfume is a perfect balance of floral softness and oud without being too overpowering.
The last beauty indulgence you had done
I got myself a FaceGym appointment, so I’m really looking forward to that!
A song that will always get you in the mood to get ready
Not always, but currently the entire Wicked soundtrack is my go-to.
Brands that check all the boxes for you
From the answers previously, I bet you can tell that I’m quite obsessed with Rhode by Hailey Bieber and Caudalie. But more recently, Kosas is getting up there for me as well.
Malaysians you look up to
Without a doubt, my parents and siblings.
A mantra that you live by
Less is more. It’s really about quality over quantity. I love and will forever embrace simplicity.
