How The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’s Refreshing Beauty Looks Came Together
Bombshell beauty, revised.
On October 15, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned to our screens after a six-year hiatus. With a stellar lineup of veteran angels and models with newly sprouted wings, the runway delivered on the glamorous hoopla of its past seasons. But to those who remember the event fondly as a linchpin of 2000s style, it’s never just been about lingerie but the beauty.
Arguably to credit for 21st-century ‘bombshell’ beauty, the 2024 VS Fashion Show promised enormous talent, big lashes and bigger hair. With makeup artist Diane Kendal and hair stylist Duffy leading the way, the beauty looks provided plenty of inspiration. However, many netizens took to social media after the show to ask one question: ‘Where are the blowouts?’
A mainstay of previous shows and campaigns from the brand, a classic blowout with heavily blushed and highlighted complexions and a posy pink gloss seemed to be a no-brainer for the resurrected show. So, when Gigi Hadid kicked off the runway extravaganza with a slicked-down bob and moody satin lip, all bets were off. Then, legendary angel Candice Swanepoel strutted her stuff sans big girls, instead showing off her lethal face card with a pulled-back high ponytail. Models Anok Yai and Paloma Elsesser also rocked the sleek look.
On the makeup front, some, like returning angel Grace Elizabeth, whose subdued look served a girl-next-door charm that emphasised models’ angelic features.
But for a more modern spin, an edgier look took over the runway, with models Alex Consani, Bella Hadid and Jasmine Tookes sporting a more sultry bronzed smoky eye and brownish-nude lips.
To achieve the look, Kendal’s team buffed dark brown kohl pencils on eyelids as a base before topping off with a sheer, shimmery shadow for a dewy shine.
Of course, some tousled waves gave a nod to the show’s heyday glam—seen on Jill Kortleve, Liu Wen, Ashley Graham and Imaan Hammam.
As some have pointed out, where the show has typically catered to the Male Gaze ideal, this 2024 iteration featured a more Female-centric approach to glam that highlighted each model’s unique beauty.
