“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”
Burberry opens the Summer 2025 campaign, It’s Always Burberry Weather: London in Love, with a prominent line by Shakespeare. Walking, prancing, or cavorting around London, the films unfold a series of love stories that centre around actors Kate Winslet, Aimee Lou Wood, Chen Kun, Jodie Turner-Smith, Michael Ward, Nicholas Hoult, Richard E. Grant, Son Sukku, and models David Gandy, Liu Wen and Naomi Campbell, donning trench coats that serve as armour—and an anchor of love, in this case.

Think nostalgic rom-coms from the nineties and noughties, set in the British weather. Drenched in rain and love, the series brings us romantic tropes like kissing in the rain or a rendezvous by the River Thames that the city lights could not weigh down. Swinging down the streets is also the trench coat, woven with a long-standing history, showing off its intrinsically British elegance. Renditions were made for the Burberry Summer 2025 collection to honour the all-weather companion with a balmy and wet summer in mind. Silhouettes such as the Castleford trench coat, for instance, feature a lighter and shower-resistant gabardine weave.

“Thankfully, I had my Burberry outerwear on most of the time, which countered the temperatures. Got to love when what you’re wearing actually suits the outdoor weather—in my line of work, that doesn’t happen often,” the campaign star, Liu Wen explained as she chuckled, sharing that while the campaign is a love letter for London’s summer, it was, in fact, filmed in a piercing cold weather that’s near 0°C.

Featuring some of the most endearing spots in London such as Kentish Town, St Paul’s Church Yard and St. Paul’s Cathedral, both Liu and Naomi Campbell agreed that the scene in the taxi with Richard E. Grant alongside a special guest appearance, the chivalrous Burberry Knight in well-polished armour was the most memorable. “This kind of scenario is incredibly whimsical and would never happen in reality, so to experience it as part of the campaign was quite fun,” Liu enthused.
For Campbell it’s the “com” in the rom-com that fascinated her. In the presence of the Burberry Knight, “Richard E. Grant turns around with perfect comedic timing and delivers that line— ‘Don’t mind him.’ The scene was hilarious!” On that note, the supermodel also reveals that apart from her family, morning walks in the park, the crisp air, and a proper cup of tea, the dry British wit that “You simply can’t find it anywhere else”, is something she misses the most when she’s away from her home country.

Summer for Campbell is showered with love, revealing that spending time with family and friends is how she remembers summer, be it a sojourn in the Maldives or exploring markets in Marrakech. Summer is about creating memories together for the English-born. “From Burna Boy to Led Zeppelin,” Campbell added, as she listed out some of the tracks on her summer playlist. “[People will] be even more surprised to know that I’m learning to DJ.” While it’s all about the groove for Campbell, summer is an idyllic pocket of time for Liu. With a jam-packed jet-setting schedule, she’s granted a chance to embrace the lushness of Mother Nature as the temperature rises. “Sitting on a vast grassland with several friends and enjoying the afternoon, just chatting about our lives—that’s one of my favourite pastimes,” the supermodel reminisced.
