New year, new shows. Last week, The Walt Disney Company unveiled a slate of new films and series, set to be released next year in 2025. From exciting new animated films from Disney and Pixar to new Korean dramas to binge over the next year, 2025 is shaping up to be a very exciting time for both the big and small screens. New Japanese and Korean series are coming to Disney+, including the second season of Gannibal, plus the upcoming sequel to the animated film Zootopia, there seems to be no shortage of new content that you can look forward to, come 2025.
Ahead, we highlight the most highly-anticipated series and movies that are coming out in 2025, that you should definitely keep your eye on.
Light Shop
With Park Bo-Young, Ju Ji-Hoon and Kim Min-Ha, webtoon creator and screenwriter Kang Full is bringing his mystical world to your Disney+ screen again. The brain behind the hit series Moving, this time, Kang introduces the world of Light Shop, a very special light store that seems to be the bridge between the living and the dead. Directed by Kim Hee-Won—who directed Vincenzo starring Song Joong-Ki—, the series will be available on the streaming platform starting 4 December. (Plus, Seolhyun of K-pop girl group AOA also holds a role in the show!)
Knock-Off
Starring actors Kim Soo-Hyun and Cho Bo-Ah, Knock-Off is a story that follows Kim Sung-Joon (played by Kim) as a man struggling to make ends meet following the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Director Park Hyun-Suk is at the helm of this black comedy series that shows Sung-Joon’s journey as he becomes a kingpin in the global counterfeit market. Just last week, the Queen Of Tears lead was in town for the Knock-Off‘s press conference, alongside Cho, where the duo talked about what prompted both of them to take on roles in the drama: the intriguing nature of the script. While no specific date has been yet set for its release, Knock-Off will be available on Disney+ in 2025.
Disney’s Snow White
The live-action remake of one of Disney’s oldest tales, the story of “the fairest of them all” comes to life in 2025, with the fantasy musical set to hit theatres in Singapore on 20 March 2025. With Rachel Zegler as the titular character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the 2025 rendition of Snow White will see a more modern take on the classic fairy tale, with a greater focus on Snow White’s friendship with the seven dwarves, rather than solely spotlighting her budding relationship with Prince Charming.
Avatar: Fire And Ash
The newest instalment of the Avatar franchise is coming to the big screens next December. Directed by legendary director James Cameron—who directed Titanic and the previous two Avatar creations—, Avatar: Fire And Ash is set to show a whole new side of Pandora, the fantastical moon inhabited by the blue-skinned Na’vi. Fire And Ash has Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprising their previous roles in the Avatar universe, while Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis join the cast as new characters. Avatar: Fire And Ash is set to be released on 19 December 2025.
Moving Season 2
Perhaps one of the most exciting updates in the Disney+ world is the announcement of Moving‘s season two. Moving was first released in 2023, and since captured both critics and the public with its riveting plot and subtle performance. The world of Moving was first introduced to the world through a webtoon of the same name by Kang Full. And while not much has been announced about how the Moving universe will be expanded on in the second season, we are already looking forward to seeing how superpowers will continue to fight big governmental powers in Korea.
