Few have mastered a complete sartorial overhaul like Pamela Anderson. Since stepping out during Paris Fashion Week last September to attend runway shows from the likes of Vivienne Westwood, The Row, Victoria Beckham and Isabel Marant without a slick of makeup—the decision to go bare-faced spurred by an exercise in “self-acceptance”, as she later revealed—the actress has become a beacon for a ‘less is more’ style philosophy.
This extends, of course, to her beauty routine. But, as we’ve seen on the press tour for her upcoming film, The Last Showgirl, it’s a doctrine she’s applying to her wardrobe, too.
While attending a special screening of the Gia Coppola-directed feature at The Landmark Westwood in Los Angeles, California, Anderson doubled down on this decisive minimalism with her version of balmy suiting. The model and memoirist radiated in an all-white ensemble from Australian label Viktoria & Woods. Anderson wore an oversized silk shirt and tucked-tailored pants, completing the look with a pair of discreetly small studs, presumably from the Copenhagen-based jewellery brand Pandora.
Earlier in the movie’s press tour, Anderson opted for a more autumnal approach to her polished yet pared-back silhouettes in pieces from Los Angeles-based label, Rue Sophie. Fusing the signature austerity of the 90s with an injection of textured basics, the star wore a high-neck cashmere cable knit sweater, wool midi skirt and a white button-down underneath.
Yes, these looks may be a far departure from the bombshell mini dresses she was formerly known for. But there’s something to be said about the synergy between Anderson’s refreshed perspective and these casually luxurious brands. It’s not surprising to see her gravitate towards effortlessly elegant pieces, especially these homegrown designs that are intended to balance refinement with relaxation.
For a woman like Anderson, one who is admittedly either on set or at home tending to her sourdough starter or writing in her journal, there’s nothing more disinteresting than pouring time piecing together an outfit. Her cardinal rules of dressing are as follows: chic, timeless and fuss-free. (These are actually descriptors that fit her iconic Baywatch swimsuit, too, funnily enough!) Take a page out of Anderson’s book and shop the pieces below.
It’s also refreshing to see Anderson let her authentic self shine, rather than leaning into the tropes of method dressing in feathers and sequins to promote the new film. As per the official logline, The Last Showgirl follows Anderson as seasoned showgirl Shelley. The performer is dealt a bad hand when her show is promptly closes after 30 successful years, leaving Shelley to consider what her future looks like away from the bright stage lights and neon glow of the Las Vegas strip.
The film co-stars Jamie Lee Cutis, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, Billie Lourd and Jason Schwartzman. The feature is set to release in Australian theatres in the new year. In the meantime, you can watch the very Lana Del Rey-coded teaser (featuring an original song from Miley Cyrus!) below.
