Into the Apple Ecosystem: The Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 2

The all-time favourite smartwatch line just got even better.

2024 marks a decade of Apple Watch and what better way to celebrate some of the newest pieces of technology to enter the space than by releasing two completely new watches: the Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 2. The new launches offer the best of both worlds, the Apple Watch Series 10 for those of us with moderate lifestyles and the Ultra 2 for the sport and adventure fiends. Apple didn’t come to play with the new watches this time around. Both models are made from aerospace-grade titanium, making them super durable. There’s also an exciting new update: the watchOS 11, which was announced at Apple WWDC 2024 back in June.

Now that the first Malaysian Apple Store is open at the Exchange TRX, grabbing your next Apple products could not be easier. You can order online and pick them up at the Apple Pickup counter. If you need help with your devices, you can also book a spot at the Genius Bar. How’s that for convenience?

Apple Watch Series 10

This is the thinnest Apple Watch yet—nearly 10 per cent thinner than Apple Watch Series 7, Series 8, and Series 9. Along with its slimmer profile, it’s also lighter with the aluminium case compared to the Series 9. The titanium ones, on the other hand, are nearly 20 per cent lighter than the stainless steel version. This series has you covered day and night—whether you’re working, hitting the gym, or just chilling in bed.

Just as the old adage puts it, the bigger the better. The Series 10 iteration has the largest screen of any Apple Watch yet. It has up to 75% more screen allowance than the Series 3 and 30% more than the Series 4, 5, 6, and SE. That means you can see and do a whole lot more than before.

Sleek and ‘lit’. Seriously, this is what the new Series 10 is all about. In another first, this Apple Watch arrives in an eye-catching Jet Black aluminium. The new cases have a reflective, jewellery-like finish and come in three colours: Natural, Gold, and Dark Slate Grey.

In just 15 minutes of charging, it provides up to eight hours of daily use. 15 minutes more will have the watch charged up to 80 per cent. This makes it easier than ever to wear the watch overnight as charging fits conveniently into everyday busy life. If it somehow slipped your mind to charge it while you sleep, a quick charge, while you complete your morning routine, should do the trick.

The watch is all about being the best partner for athletes and adventurers of all kinds, whether you’re a hiker, swimmer, cyclist, or even a scuba diver. Now featuring a sleek black titanium finish created through a special blasting process, along with a diamond-like carbon coating, this grade 5 titanium is highly scratch-resistant.

A point of difference for this watch? The Action Button. This allows its wearer to begin a workout and switch from one workout type to another. Wearers can also gain quick access to handy features like Stopwatch, Backtrack, Flashlight, and a variety of new options, including Translation, Voice Memos, and Shazam. All with a quick tap.

Athletes stick to some pretty intense workout routines, keeping a close eye on their progress, which is why the GPS Performance is built for them. The Ultra 2’s precision dual-frequency GPS uses advanced satellite and signal models, and custom positioning algorithms that lead to more accurate distance tracking, route maps and metrics.

To further elevate the watch, Apple and Hermès are at it again with their exclusive collab: the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 Hermès, mixing high-tech features with stylish flair. The En Mer band in Bleu Noir has a textured knit and a nautical rib pattern, plus a subtle “H” motif. It also includes the Hermès Maritime watch face, which is the brand’s first digital one. It has bold numbers and a second display in either black or white. High-tech drip on the wrist? Why not?

watchOS11 makes the Apple Watch an even more essential companion

Both of the smartwatches come with the new watchOS11. The update is packed with innovative features to help keep you connected, active, and healthy while also taking personalisation to the next level. The new Vitals app gives you a way to view overnight health metrics at a glance; metrics include average heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen and sleep duration. It’s kind of like having a personal healthcare professional right on your wrist.

Perhaps pregnancy symptoms are the hardest things expecting moms have to go through. If you’re experiencing frequent morning sickness or fatigue, the Additional Support During Pregnancy feature can keep track of this and give insights on what to expect and tips to cope. It’s already hard enough with the physical toll of carrying a baby, but you shouldn’t forget to take care of your mental health too. The feature gives monthly mental assessments just to check in on how you’re feeling during this exciting but confusing time.

Keeping track of how your workouts add up can be tough, especially when you’re aiming for goals like hitting 10k steps or training for a marathon. You can now check out your Training Load, which shows how much strain your body has taken from workouts over the last week compared to the past month. This makes it easier to make smart choices about your training every day.

We’ve all been there—travelling to a new country and feeling lost because we can’t speak the native language. The Translation app is now easily accessible on the watch, and it hosts over 20 languages. Not only that, most of us are afraid of trying to speak a foreign language to locals when we’re lost because we’re probably going to butcher it. Fret not, the app has speech recognition that plays translations out loud.

Whether you’re a health enthusiast, an athlete, or someone who enjoys smartwatches, there’s an option for you from this new launch. The Apple Watch Series 10 starts at RM1,799, while Apple Watch Ultra 2 starts at RM3,799. If you want to go for the fashionable splurge, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 that comes with the Hermes straps starts at RM5,499. The watches are now available for pre-order in the Apple Store app.
