Jennifer Lawrence’s Maternity Wardrobe is Rife With Thoroughly Modern Classics

Taking cues from Margot Robbie.

Ask any expectant mother about the difficulty of adopting their existing wardrobe for their growing body and they could wax lyrical about the challenges of purchasing a bevy of pregnancy clothes for the mere nine-month period they need them. That’s why it’s refreshing to see members of the celebrity style set eschew this altogether and continue to don pieces already in high rotation within their closets.

Take Jennifer Lawrence for instance. Two days after announcing she was expecting her second child with her art dealer husband Cooke Maroney, the star had already begun offering glimpses of her seasoned maternity style. In lieu of stretched denim and bump-baring body-con dresses, the No Hard Feelings actress had remained a firm disciple of her street style uniform.

For the uninitiated, Lawrence has made herself a stalwart of casual quiet luxury—a kind of unfussy mode of dressing that features incredibly crafted high-end pieces styled in a nonchalant and laid-back way that makes her outfits instantly covetable and easily replicable. Lawrence relaunched her public persona through garments from The Row, Khaite and Leset (amongst others) following the birth of her son, two-year-old Cy. So, it’s only fitting that these pieces continue to serve her well throughout her second pregnancy.

During her first outing since announcing the news, Lawrence reached for a few tried-and-tested favourites; a canary yellow waffle cotton button-down featuring delicate blue beaded floral embroidery from Bode, La Ligne wide-leg Colby pants and Madewell’s croissant-shaped essential sling cross body bag in bright ember. Later, she dressed down for dinner in a similar pair of slouchy trousers, a plain white t-shirt, a scrumptious red cashmere sweater and her go-to canal slip-on flats from The Row. As her pregnancy continues, we can rely on Lawrence to forgo any deliberate change in her aesthetic or highly-publicised bump reveal on the red carpet.

Another Hollywood heavyweight mother-to-be, Margot Robbie, has also followed this stealth maternity style throughout her pregnancy, too. Like Lawrence, Robbie has worn comfortable two-piece sets from Bottega Veneta and Camilla And Marc or bump-skimming dresses from Alaïa and Paris Georgia. If we’re taking cues from the A-listers, it’s that elasticated waistbands and muumuu shapes are out—at least until the third trimester.
