At the Vanity Table with… Yazmin Aziz

She’s working late, ‘cuz she’s a singer… and beauty content creator.

At the Vanity Table With… is a series that dives into a personality’s beauty tips, tricks, non-negotiables, and more. In this edition, award-winning singer-songwriter Yazmin Aziz talks of her abhorrence of blue eyeshadow, her uber-specific scent love, and more.

How many of us can claim that we’ve performed for literal leaders of nations? In this small subset of the population, Yazmin Aziz can say so several times over—she has indeed crooned in front of the Philippines’s Presidents Duterte and Ramos, and Malaysia’s own Tun M., Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. But that’s just one facet of her personality. When she’s not busy living her best songbird life, the 22-year-old Filipino-Malaysian indulges in her passion for beauty.

Ahead, she shares her beauty opinions, must-haves, and little fun facts that make her Yazmin Aziz.

Confess a beauty crime that you have committed before

When I was younger, my mum used to do my make-up. I swear she loved blue glitter eyeshadows! It’s like me committing a crime without even knowing it was a crime. I only realised when I looked my back at old photos—obviously with blue eyeshadow, and became more sensitive to it since I started to do my own make-up.

A beauty item you would immediately replace if it’s lost

My lipstick. You’d barely see me in public without any on. I can literally go out without a wallet, but I will always have my lipstick on me. My go-to is nude lipsticks. It gives me a classy and sophisticated feel. I love putting on lip balm to keep my lips hydrated and it allows me to wear my lipstick evenly. I also prefer matte lipsticks since they stay throughout the day and I feel it makes my lips look bolder.

Three items that are on your beauty wish list right now

I actually had Haus Labs on my list but got that ticked off when I recently went to the US. Now it is:

  1. Dyson’s latest hair gear—the Supersonic Nural and the Airstrait
  2. Mugler Aura For Women Body Cream
  3. Chanel No. 5 Eau de Parfum

A person you have the biggest beauty crush on?

Pia Wurtzbach. She has lived true to her tagline of being confidently beautiful with a heart, something I aspire to be. Apart from this, she has really embraced her natural beauty, especially her gorgeous tan skin.

Something you’re gatekeeping right now. Spill.

I have a lot of make-up, perfumes, and skincare items so it’s so hard for me to answer when someone asks what I use. Thierry Mugler Aura For Women Body Cream is a real head-turner! I even love just sniffing its scent from the jar. The only issue is, it’s so hard to find—which is why it’s on my wish list right now—so I save it for important events!

A trend that needs to die

Sharing products simply for clout, especially when it does you no good.

A viral product that does nothing for you

Sadly, bust creams! There are plenty that claim to provide miraculous results but sadly, they don’t really live up to their hype. I have yet to find something that really works for me.

A makeup step you will never skip before you head out the door

Concealer, mascara, blush, and lipstick. I really do take my makeup game seriously!

The skincare item that completely transformed your skin for the better

Moisturiser! Even if I’m only 22, I find myself having facial lines. I noticed that it improves with skin care, especially with moisturiser. Aloe vera gel helps too. Some of my favourites include Natura’s Chronos Aqua Auto-Replenish Gel Hydrator, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream, Drunk Elephant’s Protini Polypeptide Firming Moisturiser, and La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturiser.

Your trick to achieve the best hair day

Going to the salon for a hair treatment. I love getting my hair done professionally—particularly at A Cut Above. Their scalp and hair treatments are the best! It makes my hair healthier and it really enhances the overall appearance of my hair with a bonus of a relaxing massage. Having soft, smooth, and shiny hair is so hard to achieve since I use a lot of heat styling, which is why I need regular hair treatments.

An unexpected beauty hack you always incorporate into your routine

Adding a bit of Bio-Oil Skincare Oil to my lotion for that extra hydration.

An underrated perfume you think everyone should give a chance to

Davidoff Cool Water Intense. Smelled it on a man and absolutely fell in love with it! Had to ask what it was.

The last beauty indulgence you had done

Getting myself pampered at a clinic for a facial, laser treatment, and permanent hair removal.

A song that will always get you in the mood to get ready

A song I wrote called “Paradise”. I love it because it portrays a confident woman who isn’t up to playing games.

Brands that check all the boxes for you

Huda Beauty, Fenty Beauty, L’Oreal especially Kiehl’s and Natura.

Malaysians you look up to

Yuna and Michelle Yeoh. Both were brave enough to explore their talents and are doing incredibly well even outside of the country.
