Espresso Makeup is the Dark Roasted Answer to Latte Makeup, Perfect for Rich, Intense Evenings Ahead

This beauty brew is sultry, sexy and the perfect accompaniment for Espresso Martini-fuelled soirées.

As our calendars get pencilled with late-night evening plans, so does our need for a sultry, versatile beauty look that can take us through the upcoming festive season. Enter: Espresso makeup.

Boasting over 52.4 million views on TikTok alone, this seductive makeup technique is the dark-roasted and more intense version of the viral bronzed ‘latte makeup’ trend that swept the platform in the middle of the year.

For the uninitiated, espresso makeup places a bigger emphasis on full-bodied brown tones, with the key to achieving this look a mocha-style smokey eye and glossy, chocolate-coloured lips. Unlike latte makeup, which was rooted in golden caramel hues and shimmering powders, espresso makeup combines the ‘siren’ eye makeup method with a more lived-in complexion. The result is a seductive spin on typical ‘evening’ beauty with a heavy focus on sensuous eyes, chiselled cheeks and plumped lips.

Of course, the poster girl of translating TikTok beauty moments into real-life trends, Hailey Bieber, is already one step ahead of the curb. Coinciding with the rise of this trend, Bieber has released an aptly-titled rich brown shade of her new tinted Peptide Lip Treatments called ‘Espresso’.

Naturally, with the popularity of the product co-signing on the trend, espresso makeup has become one of the most widespread beauty trends. Bieber sported this double shot look, doubling down on the grungier take on latte makeup at Paris Fashion Week.

Devon Lee Carlson also embraced the caffeinated trend for her beauty notes for the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2024 show. Camila Morrone, Jasmine Tookes, Bella Hadid and Lily-Rose Depp have also offered their late-night variation on the early-morning brew-inspired trend.

As the year draws to a close and Espresso Martini-fuelled soirées become a regular occurrence in our social diaries, the Espresso makeup is the fool-proof style to brush up on before your next outing. Ahead, GRAZIA’s guide to achieving the trend, including the caffeinated-inspired beauty products to try and the beauty muses to emulate.
